Would you like to be able to take great underwater photos?

This course takes you through the material step by step. Easy to understand with practical application of what you learn. This course consists of both knowledge development and in-water training.

    NOTE:  
    * The camera must allow manual functions to be set.
    * There are cameras available to use during your course.
  • Requirements:
    Minimum Age: 10 (Jr.) Open Water Diver or equivalent entry-level certification

Introduction

Avoid beginner mistakes and shorten the learning curve with tips from the pros. This course takes you through topics like camera settings, underwater gear, macro and wide-angle photography, and using flash/strobe lights and continuous torch lights, enhancing your images both in quality and color.

Experience level

Requirements

You need to be a minimum age of 10 with a (Jr.) Open Water Diver or equivalent entry-level scuba certification.

No prior photography experience is needed, this course is for anyone looking to explore this great field of photography.

Gear
Beyond basic scuba equipment, you'll need a digital underwater camera and a computer or other device for downloading and viewing your images. It’s best to use your camera, strobes, etc. during the course so you can become familiar with how they work.

But, we do offer you a camera and housing to use for the duration of the course. This is helpful if you want to see what it's all about before purchasing your underwater photography gear.

Condensed Course Content

Day 1
Theory session.

Day 2
Theory session + practical pool dive.

Day 3
Theory session + dive briefing.

Day 4
During two guided sea dives, get hands-on experience taking photos underwater (use your own or ask about our rental equipment).
  1. Theory Sessions:
    Camera settings
    Composition
    Lighting
    Photographing marine life
    Wide-angle and macro photography
    Gear-talk and demonstration
    Workflow and file management
  2. Practical Pool Dive Session:
    Setting up and care of an underwater setup, safety procedures & practicing taking pictures underwater.
  3. Guided Photo Dives:
    Excursion with a debrief afterwards
    File management

Course Location

The course is presented at Just Africa Scuba Dive Centre in Gordon's Bay, Cape Town.
